Creative Writing Competition

2017 Annual Creative Writing Competition NOW OPEN!

It’s back and bigger than before!

We are glad to announce the launch of our annual creative writing competition!

Theme: Resistance

What changes do you think our world needs? What forces do we need to push against to make them happen?

Oppression comes in many different shapes. It can happen at home or in the street, through war or the effects of history.

A boy who helps his friend stand up to bullies, a person who speaks out against sexism at work, a movement for change like Black Lives Matter – these are all forms of resistance.

We’re looking for poems, stories or scripts that explore resistance in interesting and thought-provoking ways. You can write about your own experience, look at the world around you, or use current events or history to inspire your work.

Categories: 11-14, 15-18 yrs

Prizes: £40 of vouchers; publication & performance opportunities

If you submit
Poems or lyrics: Up to 30 lines
Stories: Up to 800 words
Scripts: Up to 800 words

What is the Rewrite Creative Writing Competition?

Every year we run a London-wide poetry, prose and playwriting competition for young people in two age categories. Winners attend a rehearsed reading of their work, performed by professional actors, as part of our Annual Celebration Event.

“I’d just like to thank you again for the opportunity with Rewrite. It was an amazing experience and gave me the confidence boost I needed!”
Tobi Kyeremetang, Creative Writing Competition Winner, 2013

“Thank you for having me at your annual celebration. It was a very inspiring evening and a fantastic insight into your company’s amazing activity with grass-roots writers and often unheard or ignored voices and stories. I’m looking forward to one of your young promising writers growing into a new voice of British theatre.”
Omar Elerian, Associate Director, Bush Theatre
