Core Projects
React
Established in 2001, React is a youth theatre made up of young
people, aged 14 to 18, from different cultural and national
backgrounds. The group work together on drama that explores the
social, cultural and political issues which are important to
them. React perform their work regularly at venues around London
including schools, theatres and festivals and are encouraged to
develop skills in performing, writing, directing, marketing and
other areas of the arts that interest them.
"Rewrite tackles subjects that are important
to us, such as asylum, bullying and changing people's
attitudes."
Damilola Ogutuga, age 16, React member
Creative
ESOL
Since February 2007 Rewrite have pioneered this innovative
programme, bringing together skilled drama facilitators and
qualified ESOL tutors to develop a new approach to support young
people from abroad to learn English and build self-confidence and
social networks. The after-school sessions are specifically aimed
at young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds who are
unable to fully access mainstream education because of language
barriers.
"Rewrite's Creative ESOL programme gave the
young people who participated from our school a great leap
forward with their language skills, confidence and integration
into mainstream secondary school. It was a fantastic opportunity
for them."
Delia Rolls, SENco, Sacred Heart School
