Two groups, two cultures, one battle. In the streets of London, two groups fight it out to belong to and own a place that already bears the scars of decades of conflict. Can they learn to accept each other's differences and understand what they share, or will the culture of violence they have inherited from their environment and society only lead to destruction? And who will be caught in the middle?
Based on Romeo and Juliet, REACT's latest play explores the reasons why violence erupts between different people, wonders if we can change and asks whether it is always 'us and them'.
Over the past seven years Rewrite has delivered a number of projects, including ‘Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner' (2001), ‘Rethink'(2006) and the REACT ongoing youth theatre group. We also completed a Youth Arts Awards Performance as part of STEP festival. In summer 2007 Rewrite ran a DVD Project where young people made a short film with the aim of counteracting the negative perception of South London given by the media.
