"We're treated like grown-ups and we have our own independence.
It's fun! Our performances are sophisticated and I've gained more
confidence since being in the group."
Mwila, React
participant.
Schools
Bespoke Projects
Rewrite has a strong track record of delivering bespoke projects
for primary and secondary schools. This has included awareness
raising and integration arts projects with young people using
drama, storytelling, creative writing and film. We are interested
in working with partners to create projects which meet individual
needs.
We can work with your school to support students with English as
an Additional Language through drama.
We can work with students to devise plays around issues that are
important to them and their world.
We can offer creative writing/ literacy projects and
workshops.
We can offer one-off workshops on global issues, issues
surrounding refugees and asylum seekers, and challenging
prejudice and racism.
We can tailor make workshops to curriculum requirements, such as
citizenship, PSHE, Black History Month or Refugee Week.
We have formed successful partnerships with many schools and
colleges including: Bethnal Green Technology College (where
Rewrite were artists in residence, 2002 -2003), Aylwin Girls'
School (now Harris Academy Bermondsey), St Saviours and St Olaves
School, Sacred Heart School, Walworth Academy, St Michael and All
Angels Academy, Harris Girls' Academy East Dulwich and Robert
Browning Primary School.
If you would like to find out more about the possibilities for a
bespoke Rewrite project in your school, please fill out the
contact form or call us on 07575 743103.
Referring young people
We have a referral process in place for both React and Creative
ESOL via Southwark and Lambeth schools. All places are free of
charge. If you would like to refer a young person to one of these
projects, please complete the contact form and we will be in
touch. Alternatively, call us on 07575 743103.
Volunteers
We engage volunteers to support all our activities. This includes
opportunities to act as a workshop assistant, gain experience in
community arts coordination and support productions through
technical and design work. If you are interested in getting
involved as a volunteer please complete the contact form or call
us on 07575 743103.
"Seeing the projects evolve is a lot of fun and I really enjoyed
hearing the young people's ideas every week. You can get involved
with many different aspects ... from helping out with scripts to
set design."
Gemma Cantlow, React volunteer
Community
Rewrite aims to work with and for the community. Our projects often bring together groups that would not normally interact. We give them the opportunity to work together to challenge negative perceptions and ease community tensions. We have worked with older people, refugee groups, people with disabilities and various other local community groups
In 2006 we won the Capital Community Foundation's Award for outstanding work with young people.
