Rewrite was founded in 2000 with the aim of using drama and creative writing to bring young people together from refugee and host community backgrounds, to challenge prejudice and discrimination against refugees and asylum seekers.
Since gaining charity status in 2005 we have focused our activities in South London and have established our core projects and an office base. We now have a dedicated and diverse committee and a five year business plan and fundraising strategy.
Rewrite brings together young people from different backgrounds to fight prejudice and injustice surrounding refuge and asylum, through the power of drama and creative writing.
To break down barriers of prejudice and racism through drama and creative writing.
To include in our work, young people from different cultural, social, international and economic backgrounds.
To celebrate cultural diversity in all its forms
To raise public awareness about issues surrounding refuge and asylum, including wider global issues.
To provide a platform for young people to express their ideas and opinions creatively.
To develop the individual potential of each participant.
To provide and nurture a platform for an active demonstration of integration between young people and adults from all backgrounds.
Rewrite is funded by the Capital Community Foundation, The Co-operative Group, the Newcomen Collett Foundation and SKY Youth Action Fund.
